BTS’s new Japanese album is breaking records! BTS sets new Oricon record for the highest first-week album sales achieved by male foreign artist.
On July 21, Oricon revealed that BTS’s fourth Japanese full album “Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~” had sold 564,000 copies in its first week of release, setting a new record for the highest first-week sales ever achieved by a male foreign artist. The previous record was held by TVXQ’s “Best Selection 2010,” which sold 413,000 copies.
“Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~” is also the album that has sold the most copies in Japan overall this year so far, not only in terms of first-week sales but also total sales.
Naturally, “Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~” takes the No. 1 spot on Oricon’s weekly albums chart (and weekly digital albums chart) for July 21, becoming their sixth album to top the chart. This makes BTS the male foreign artist with the second most No. 1s achieved on the weekly albums chart. TVXQ currently holds the highest record with eight albums.
Congratulations to BTS on their achievements!
