He started the interview by introducing BLACKPINK as the most popular all-female K-pop group and shows the girls' first-ever full-length album "THE ALBUM." He then introduces each member of BLACKPINK - Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa - who are taking part in the interview all the way in South Korea.
He surprises the girls with a little bit of Korean, asking, "Do you know I speak Korean?" This surprises the girls, who praise him for his skills. He then jokes that he needs to stick with English for their Western audience.
Jimmy Kimmel then asks if the girls can leave their homes in South Korea and get mobbed whenever they do. Rosé and Jennie say that they can if they are well-covered up and not in eye-catching clothing. Kimmel then asks if they wear any disguises, joking that they might need a mustache. Rosé and Jennie then say that they usually wear jackets and masks to cover themselves up, leaning towards more masculine clothing.
Kimmel then mentions the fandom name, BLINKs, and asks where the name came from. Jennie reveals that they actually thought of the fandom name themselves, saying they immediately came up with it when they settled that their name would be BLACKPINK.
This leads Kimmel to ask why the group's name is BLACKPINK and what the name represents. Rosé answers this time, saying, "BLACKPINK... We just felt that those two colors represented us the most. Because we're very girly, but at the same time, we're savage too. We have a song called 'Pretty Savage,' and it goes with BLACKPINK. We just thought it described us the best."
Kimmel mentioned how Jisoo does not speak as much English as the rest of the BLACKPINK members. He then directs a question to her, asking what her favorite English word is. Jisoo replied in straight English, saying, "My favorite English sentence is 'That's a pity.'" Kimmel then reveals his favorite phrase in Spanish actually translates to "What a pity," leading Jisoo to high-five him through the screen due to the coincidence.
Jimmy Kimmel then talks about the Netflix documentary, "BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky." He mentions how the documentary goes into detail about the girls and their lives as trainees, prompting him to ask, "You guys go to a school, an academy, where you train to sing and dance and then they choose the students that excel and put you in this group together. [...] In that school, is it just about performing, or are you learning all the other boring things we have to learn?"
Rosé spoke up to answer, saying, "I think I was personally excited to get rid of, in my opinion, those boring subjects. But in the long run, it would have been nice if we were educated that way. But it was mostly about our performance."
Jennie then added to Rosé's answer, saying that they had to learn different languages. Rosé agreed, saying they had to learn English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. This causes Kimmel to, once again, surprise them with his little bit of Korean. The girls praise him once more, with Jennie asking how he learned to say it so perfectly.
Jimmy Kimmel brought up BLACKPINK's iconic Coachella performance in 2019. He then asked the girls of BLACKPINK if people in Korea get just as excited about Coachella the way Americans do. The girl then revealed that people know about Coachella and that anyone who loves music would love to go to Coachella.
She then revealed that as trainees, they would look up Coachella performance videos and see who would be in a line-up. Kimmel then asks Lisa if there was anyone who she was excited to meet in Coachella. Lisa revealed she was excited to meet Jaden Smith. Kimmel then asked if Lisa knew his father, Will Smith, was a rapper before becoming a movie star. "Not really," she admitted. "But I saw him rap on stage, and I was like 'Oh my God!'"
Kimmel then asks about their album "THE ALBUM." He then jokes about the title, asking if they were too busy training that they could not give the album a name. Rosé responded, saying that they actually had many names planned for "THE ALBUM," but since the fans were waiting so long for them to drop a full-length album, they decided to go with "THE ALBUM."
He then asks about Cardi B, who features the song "Bet You Wanna" on "THE ALBUM." He asked if they had known about Cardi B before the collaboration. Jennie answers and says that they did know her and that they used to listen to her songs all the time. "When we heard that she was going to be a part of our album, we just started screaming and jumping up and down."
