On the August 23 episode of the SBS variety show, cast members Lee Seung Gi, Yang Se Hyung, Kim Dong Hyun, Shin Sung Rok, and ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo met with this week’s master, Kim Hee Sun.
Kim Hee Sun made her acting debut in 1993, four years before Cha Eun Woo was born. He hilariously revealed, “To be honest, I didn’t really know who Kim Hee Sun was, but I learned after hearing G-Dragon’s song where he says ‘Kim Tae Hee and Kim Hee Sun.’”
The actress adorably responded, “That Kim Hee Sun is me.” Later, when the other cast members brought up Kim Tae Hee, Song Hye Kyo, and Jun Ji Hyun, she added, “They’re the generation after me.”
Shin Sung Rok chimed in, “There was a big debate about which of those three was the prettiest, but there wasn’t anything like that in the previous generation. It was just Kim Hee Sun.”
Kim Hee Sun then made everyone laugh by commenting, “I really haven’t gotten any plastic surgery.”
Throughout her career, Kim Hee Sun has been the face of many firsts. She played the lead in a drama that surpassed 50 percent in viewership ratings, and she also became the youngest actress ever to win the Daesang (grand prize) at the SBS Drama Awards that same year. Her record has not been broken in the 22 years since.
Kim Hee Sun was also the first-ever female MC of SBS’s “Inkigayo.” She commented, “At the time, stars like H.O.T. or Seo Taiji and Boys would come to greet us in the waiting room because I was the MC. I was so thankful, and seeing singers like that left me starstruck.”
When the members said they thought she could be an “Inkigayo” MC again, she made everyone by laughing, “Trot is the trend these days.”
