Taylor Swift has accused US President Donald Trump of “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism”.
The “Blank Space” singer lashed out at President Donald Trump on Friday for his late-night tweet threatening violence against protesters in Minnesota over the death of a black man who died while being arrested.
"After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? When the looting starts the shooting starts'?" the pop icon tweeted.
She tagged Trump in her tweet, adding: "We will vote you out in November."
Within hours, Swift's tweet had received more than a million likes, making it the singer's most-liked post on Twitter.
Trump's tweet came as protests erupted in Minneapolis in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, a black man who was heard on video saying he couldn't breathe as a white police officer pinned him down with his knee.
Swift's message was in response to Mr Trump's tweet, in which he branded the Minneapolis protesters "thugs," and said: "any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!"
The official Twitter account for The White House doubled down on Trump's remarks, reposting the tweet.
Twitter has hidden Trump's tweet, saying it violates Twitter rules around glorifying violence. As reported by Deadline, a spokesperson for Twitter said: "The Tweets violate our policies regarding the glorification of violence based on the historical context of the last line, its connection to violence, and the risk it could inspire similar actions today.”
