When Architectural Digest landed a tour of Drake over-the-top Toronto mansion — with its 4,000-pound bath tub, one-ton bed.
Indoor pool and full basketball court — one smaller, but equally eccentric detail was lost in the shuffle. The rapper’s impressive collection of Birkin bags.
Buried in the flurry of eye-popping details that Drake reveals about his 50,000-square-foot mansion — which he calls The Embassy — is this line, “Equally dramatic is Drake’s two-story closet, adorned with amethyst hardware, rock crystal, and seating upholstered in diamond-tufted shearling with polished nickel studs. It’s the perfect place to display the musician’s extensive wardrobe, sneaker collection, and the array of precious Hermès Birkin bags that he has been amassing for years.” Birkin bags?
While there is no other explanation as to why the rapper would collect the Hermes bags known to cost into the hundreds of thousands, Drake told The Hollywood Reporter in a 2017 profile (on his plans to move into film and TV production) that bag collection will be for “the woman I end up with.” So don’t look for him to be wearing the bags on any red carpets once the coronavirus pandemic ends.
Drake describes The Embassy’s decor in Architectural Digest as “overwhelming high luxury.” It’s filled with hard, stately surfaces — including granite, marble, limestone, bronze, exotic woods and Swarovski crystals, to name a few. Not what every woman might choose — but at least Drake’s future mate will have a two-story closet of Birkin bags waiting for her. He said he aims for the home to last over 100 years.
