Andrew Lloyd Webber is planning to give theatre fans a big show they can watch from home every Friday throughout the coronavirus lockdown.
Beginning this week (April 3, 2020), the impresario will be uploading footage from complete musicals on THE SHOWS MUST GO ON YouTube channel, beginning with a 2000 stage production of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starring Donny Osmond, Maria Friedman, Richard Attenborough, and Joan Collins.
The online shows willbe available for free from 2:00 pm EST every Friday and they’ll stay posted for 48 hours, so fans will be able to watch full shows from the comfort of their living rooms.
Andrew Lloyd Webber will mark the Easter weekend by showcasing a 2012 production of rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar on Good Friday (April 1, 2020), starring Tim Minchin and Spice Girls star Melanie C.
The footage uploaded will also feature clips of famous performances and behind-the-scenes video.
Fans will be encouraged to make a donation to a variety of charity organizations as they watch the footage.
