After becoming wrapped up in numerous accusations including solicitation of prostitution, embezzlement, violation of sexual violence laws (illegal filming of sexual content), etc, all of which were centered around his affiliation with the adult night club 'Burning Sun', Seungri faced trial in court in January of 2020. In March of the same year, Seungri began his mandatory military service, resulting in his trial being transferred to the jurisdiction of the military court.
In August of 2021, the military court sentenced Seungri to 3 years in prison, as well as a fine of over 1.1 billion KRW. The sentence also resulted in the identification of Seungri as a sexual offender.
During the course of two separate appeals, Seungri's sentence was reduced to 1 year and 6 months. Seungri, who was then relocated to Yeoju Prison for the remainder of his prison sentence after his series of trials, has now been released as of February 9 KST. Initially, he was scheduled to be released on February 11.
