MOMOLAND's outfits at the Asia Artist Awards 2021 are drawing criticism for being too revealing and controversial. Keep on reading for all the details.
MOMOLAND Receives Backlash for Revealing Outfits During Asia Artist Awards 2021
On December 2, MOMOLAND attended the Asia Artist Awards 2021 (also known as the AAAs 2021). The girl group took home the "Best Choice" award during the event.
However, while many were happy to see MOMOLAND going home with an award, their outfit at the year-end award ceremony brought a series of discussions.
Both sets of outfits from MOMOLAND, when attending the AAAs, received scrutiny from South Koreans. Not only did people find the outfits tacky, but people also claimed the clothing was too revealing and offensive. The members all revealed a lot of skin in an event where several singers, actors and other celebrities were present. Therefore, people believe the outfit was inappropriate for the event.
Some even claimed the outfits looked cheap and were too revealing to be worn by idols. People began to question whether MOMOLAND's agency, MLD Entertainment, deliberately chose these problematic outfits to create a scandal for the group. Many believed this was plausible, as a scandal would mean more people talking about MOMOLAND.
Others believed that because the company does not have a lot of funds, they can only afford to rent cheap and tacky outfits.
Meanwhile, people wondered how the MOMOLAND members felt while wearing this clothing. They believed that they must have been uncomfortable in such revealing outfits. Some thought they could have felt bad about themselves, as they were surrounded by idols wearing expensive outfits.
The members who received the most comments concerning their outfits are Nancy, Nayun and JooE. During the red carpet, MOMOLAND was seen in white cocktail dresses. While the skirts of the other members were of reasonable length, people claimed JooE's skirt was too short. Some commented that she most likely had to hold her skirt down to prevent it from rising as she walked.
Nancy and Nayun's second set of outfits are what drew criticism. Nancy was seen wearing a leopard print mini skirt and a sparkly silver top with several cutouts, only covering her chest, sides and back. Her midriff is visible.
Nayun, on the other hand, is seen wearing a pink mini-dress with several cutouts in her midriff and chest. Additionally, the idol is wearing a silver bralette to cover up her chest.
Some of the comments concerning MOMOLAND's outfits read, "Wow, they must be so embarrassed. Especially Nancy and that pink sausage-looking girl," "Their outfits look so vulgar. They look like a prostitute's outfit," "The other members' skirts are alright, but JooE's skirt is super short, "Wow, but isn't this intentional?" and "Isn't the company doing this on purpose?"
