DAY6 Young K, BLACKPINK Lisa, and Wonho: Third-Generation Idols Begin Solo Battle with New Albums
DAY6 Young K
DAY6 member Young K made his long-awaited solo debut on Sept. 6, which is after six years since his debut in the boy group. On that day, he dropped his first solo album "Eternal," which comprises seven songs that he wrote and co-composed.
Young K's "Eternal" debuted at No. 9 on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart and ranked first in at least 10 countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Ukraine, and Taiwan.
BLACKPINK Lisa
BLACKPINK member Lisa became the second runner in the solo battle between the second and third-generation idols. On Sept. 10, she released her single album "LALISA," which is her first solo work in five years since her debut.
With "LALISA," BLACKPINK Lisa attained multiple milestones, including the highest number of pre-orders for a female K-pop soloist. Her single album surpassed 800,000 pre-orders on the day of the album's release.
BLACKPINK Lisa's "LALISA" also now holds the world record for the most-viewed music video in the first 24 hours among MVs of soloists. It is also the fastest MV by a K-pop soloist to reach 100 million views, doing so in only two days.
Wonho
Wonho, on the other hand, made his solo comeback on Sept. 14 with his second mini-album "Blue Letter."
"Blue Letter" has seven songs, including the title track "Blue" and its English version. Wonho took part in writing, composing, and arranging every song in the album.
On Sept. 15, Wonho's "Blue Letter" entered the Top 5 of the iTunes Album Chart in the United States, while it debuted at No. 8 on the European iTunes Album Chart. The mini-album also entered at No. 3 on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart.
The title track "Blue" has also landed on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart, taking the No. 41 spot.
Highlight Yang Yoseob and SHINee Key: Second-Generation Idols Continue Solo Battle with Comeback Albums
Highlight Yang Yoseob
On Sept. 20, Highlight member Yang Yoseob will return to the K-pop scene after almost three years. He is set to drop his first full-length album since his debut as a soloist.
The album will come after his digital single album "20 Full Moons," which was released in two years and eight months on the day of his military enlistment in January 2019.
Yang Yoseob is known for his singing ability that is marked by exceptional high notes and powerful vocals. He is expected to participate in writing and composing the songs for his upcoming albums as he has been writing and composing songs in the past.
SHINee Key
SHINee member Key is another well-known all-rounder from the second generation of K-pop. On Sept. 27, he is scheduled to drop his first solo mini-album "BAD LOVE."
This comeback will mark his first return as a soloist in two years and six months since the repackaged album "I Wanna Be," released in March 2019. Key used retro as the main concept of his solo comeback this September.
Ahead of the release of SHINee Key's "BAD LOVE," he dropped a pre-release track, "Hate that..." featuring Girls' Generation Taeyeon.
