How Korean Netizens Are Reacting To The News That Seungri Will Be Released From Prison By The End Of The Week

Former BIGBANG member Seungri will be released from prison soon.

According to reports, Seungri will be released from prison on February 11. Last May, the Supreme Court of South Korea finalized a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in jail for Seungri. He was transferred to a civilian prison from the military after the final sentencing.

Seungri was indicted for 9 criminal charges in January 2020, including solicitation of illegal prostitution, illegal overseas gambling, the spread of illegally filmed sexual content, embezzlement, threatening, and assault. During his initial military court trial, Seungri was found guilty of all 9 charges and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. However, after filing an appeal, the High Military Court reduced his sentence to 1.5 years.

This brought anger to many Koreans as they believe the sentencing was too light and Seungri is being released from prison too early.

With the news that Seungri will be released from prison after a few more days, Korean netizens are expressing their concerns that the former idol will resume his activities or will commit the same crimes.

Korean netizens commented, "I hope that he doesn't resume broadcast activities after time passes," "I feel he will do worse things after a while," "People never change, let's not forget what he did," "He needs to leave Korea and live quietly somewhere else," "South Korea is such a nice country to live in, you only get a year and a half for really bad crimes," "He needs to go back to prison," "He should be in jail at least 3 more years," "It still amazes me every time I see how short he served time for 9 crimes," "He will start to come back on YouTube," "He served time in jail shorter than mandatory military service," "100% chance that he's going to commit a similar crime again," and "He lived in jail for so short."
