BLACKPINK Jisoo's Acting Disappoints Following 'Snowdrop' Airing
On December 18, the first two episodes of "Snowdrop" were released on the streaming platform Disney+.
On top of accusations of history distortion by the production team, leading lady and BLACKPINK member Jisoo is receiving criticism for her acting skills.
"Snowdrop" is Jisoo's first lead role in a drama. While international fans praise Jisoo's performance, South Koreans disagree, criticizing Jisoo's way of pronunciation and intonation in the drama.
Many also revealed that they did not understand what she was saying and that they needed to read the subtitles to understand what she was trying to say.
Others pointed out that the way she spoke was awkward. One even claimed she did not audition for the role and was simply chosen due to her high popularity.
Another factor that earned Jisoo criticism is her facial expressions. People say that her way of showing emotions is too exaggerated to the point where it looks fake. Because of that, South Korean viewers are having a hard time relating to Jisoo's character and instead find her dislikeable in the drama.
However, others defended Jisoo and stated that they sympathized with her. Many speculate that the drama is leeching off her fame as a free pass to continue airing, despite the negative feedback. Others stated that mocking Jisoo's vocal skills does not instantly make her a bad actress and that there are still several episodes that will be released that will fully show Jisoo's acting ability.
Some of the comments concerning Jisoo's acting skills read, "If not for the subtitles, I would not understand what she is saying," "Her intonation is awkward, and her pronunciation is a mess. Even her expressions are laughable," "Did she even audition for the role? I bet she just entered the role, and they cast her," "What is up with her pronunciation?" "It feels like a web drama," and "Jisoo's acting is seriously so freaking bad."
