The 35th Golden Disc Awards with Curaprox will judge the songs and albums released from November last year to November 2020. Songs and albums that were excluded from the evaluation due to the deadline last year will be included this year.
The Golden Disc Awards will once again put fairness at its top priority. It is an award ceremony that will reveal the process of selecting winners in major categories and the evaluation scores of experts, boasting fairness and transparency in the selection of award winners. That's why singers want to win at this ceremony the most.
Candidates for major categories will be selected based on quantitative assessments such as music listen count and album sales. Based on this, the expert evaluation team reviews are conducted. As questions have been raised over the reliability of music charts, an executive committee consisting of six industry experts, including representatives from South Korea's leading music distribution companies, increased the review rate from 30 percent to 40 percent in the 34th ceremony. The 35th ceremony will also maintain this 40 percent of review rate.
The review will be conducted by the executive committee of the Golden Disk Awards and an evaluation team of 50 K-Pop experts, including officials from music distributors, producers, critics, and reporters in charge of music programs at broadcasting companies. They conduct a qualitative assessment by comprehensively considering their musical achievements and social and cultural influences of the nominees.
The Golden Disc Awards increases its prestigiousness by excluding online voting from the judging criteria to prevent the awards in major categories such as the Main Prize, Grand Prize, and Rookie Award from turning into a popular award. The online voting score will be only used for the Popularity Award.
The Golden Disc Awards has been around for 35 years since its first run in 1986. It has established itself as one of the best music festivals with its fair award results and its stunning stage production and planning. The ceremony will be broadcast live on JTBC, JTBC2 and JTBC4 on January 9 and 10, 2021.
