The beautiful model-turned-actress doesn’t only play typical princess roles that make her look pretty.
Instead, some of her roles are so peculiar and unpredictable that she’s left a really deep impression on people–For example, the materialistic character Baek In-Ha from “Cheese in the Trap,” where her comedic acts involved screaming in the middle of the streets and acting entitled. If you’ve not seen her in that drama, it’s going to be a great challenge to imagine Lee Sung-Kyung acting like that!
Kim Bok Joo from “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo (2016-2017)”
MAIN CAST: Lee Sung-Kyung, Nam Joo-Hyuk, Lee Joo-Young, Cho Hye-Jung, Kyung Soo-Jin.
The 20-year-old weightlifter Kim Bok-Joo (Lee Sung-Kyung) knew nothing but lifting barbells all her life, that’s until she fell victim to “love at first sight,” with a guy named Jung Jae-Yi (Lee Jae-Yoon) she met on the streets.
It’s easy to fall for this young lady. She goes around with her best friends acting tough and not letting anyone take advantage of her or her friends. Bok-Joo isn’t afraid to say what she thinks, but doesn’t use her strength that she has trained up as a weightlifter to intimidate others.
And even the way she speaks is overflowing with cuteness.
But beneath that cover, that’s where we love her even more. Despite being an aspiring, strong weightlifter, Bok-Joo reminds us on several occasions that she’s an ordinary teenager like how we used to be, helping us relive those precious teenage days. Those relatable teenage problems and worries for her future only made her more endearing and lovable.
Jin Seo-Woo from “Doctors (2016)”
MAIN CAST: Kim Rae-Won, Park Shin-Hye, Lee Sung-Kyung, Yoon Gyun-Sang.
In Jin Seo-Woo (Lee Sung-Kyung)’s point of view, she had everything taken away from her after Yoo Hye-Jung (Park Shin-Hye) appeared in her life. Her best friend, her position as one of the best students, and even the person she was infatuated with.
She’s obviously an antagonist in the drama. Yoo Hye-Jung’s life wasn’t comfortable in the first place, but Jin Seo-Woo made it worse than it already is, only because jealousy got the better of her.
Even so, it gets harder to hate her as time goes by. Jin Seo-Woo gradually reveals that sweet and warm side of her. In fact, she cares about her patients more than she should, getting so emotionally attached that she was left broken when one of her patients passed on. Seo-Woo is also a girl who gets herself involved in love triangles/quadrangles twice in a row where her feelings were never reciprocated. Poor girl!
Oh So-Nyeo from “It’s Okay, That’s Love (2014)”
MAIN CAST: Zo In-Sung, Kong Hyo-Jin, Lee Kwang-Soo, Sung Dong-Il, Lee Sung-Kyung.
SPOILERS–In here, Lee Sung-Kyung gets the guy. Phew!
She plays the misguided high school student, Oh So-Nyeo in this drama. So-Nyeo, unfortunately, isn’t going to win hearts easily. She’s a manipulative and selfish character who dates around and toys with Soo-Kwang (Lee Kwang-Soo)’s feelings.
But her love for Soo-Kwang made her a heartwarming and memorable character in the end. While Soo-Kwang has been dumped by girls because of his Tourette’s, So-Nyeo learns to overlook that and love him for just who he is.
And that’s… probably the only thing she did to redeem herself.
Of all the roles Lee Sung-Kyung has done, the adorable Kim Bok-Joo from “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo” definitely won me over.
Which character that Lee Sung-Kyung has portrayed so far is your favorite girl?
