After a series of superhero movie projects from Marvel to DC, maybe James Gunn needs a little break and focus on other genres.
On June 14, director James Gunn of the Guardians of the Galaxy series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe published an article to answer the possibility that he would direct a part of the Avengers movie in the future.
Specifically, Gunn posted a story that answered a fan's question on his official Instagram page, "I haven't been asked, but I wouldn't do it if I was."
In fact, this response is quite understandable because after the 3rd part of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn has directed a total of 4 superhero titles, and he definitely needs a new wind. In April, Gunn also confirmed that he had no plans for Guardians of the Galaxy 4, that his cooperation with Marvel would temporarily end after season 3.
When asked, "Not sure if you have been asked but would you direct an Avengers movie?" James Gunn replied, "I haven't been asked, but I wouldn't do it if I was."
In addition, according to the Phase 4 and 5 plans of the Marvel movie universe, there will not be any Avengers movies for at least the next 3 years, as the company is prioritizing the introduction of new characters such as Eternals, Shang- Chi, … rather than head-on as part of a large gathering of superheroes like Infinity War or Endgame. On the other hand, a product that "crams" with so many details and characters may be an overwhelming thing for the director.
James Gunn is the talented director behind the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, which makes fans excited by the humorous guidance that highlights this quirky group of heroes of the MCU. In July 2018, he was suddenly fired from his role as the director of the series due to bad comments about the pedophile issue. However, Gunn was reappointed to continue to take over Guardians of the Galaxy 3. During the "banishment", James Gunn also got himself another superhero project, The Suicide Squad of DC.
