More and more movies postponed release due to COVID-19
On March 13, all entertainment events around the world were canceled due to health concerns surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic with more than 134,000 infections worldwide. One of the most affected entertainment industries is the film industry, where some upcoming movies have had their release dates postponed.
Recently, talented director John Krasninski shared on Twitter that A Quiet Place Part II will postpone its release date indefinitely - until the manufacturer makes a new announcement. Shortly after that, Universal Pictures also shared that Fast and Furious 9 will be delayed for up to a year - officially opening in April 2021. And on the morning of March 13, Disney officially join the party after delaying the release of its two movies - Mulan and The New Mutants.
After Mulan and The New Mutants, will Disney continue to postpone the release dates of Black Widow and Soul? For Black Widow, the film is scheduled to release in May. With the current situation, although it would be too late to postpone the schedule now, another work supposed to release at the same time - Fast & Furious 9 - has been postponed to next year. However, the case of Black Widow seems to be worse because Marvel has run a global advertising campaign for it.
And there is one more terrible reason: the rescheduling of Black Widow will ruin the whole phase 4 of MCU. If the movie is rescheduled to November 2020, Eternals will have to move to 2021 and cause all the remaining MCU films to be rescheduled. This change is even likely to shake Disney+, as Marvel's series on the platform are related directly to their movies on the big screen.
In the case of Soul - Pixar's main animated film, the delay will seriously affect their Oscar 2021 campaign. The film is scheduled to release on June 17, but with the unpredictable pandemic, if the schedule stays intact, its revenue will be seriously affected.
Rescheduling a movie's release date is a very difficult decision for movie producers, especially those that have their films so close to opening. However, given the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, to ensure the health and safety of the audience, rescheduling is necessary. Let's wait and see which films will be reschedule.
