Pete Davidson was poised to make his big-screen, leading man debut in the Judd Apatow comedy, The King Of Staten Island.
But now, with movie theaters closed across the world in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the film is going to be released through video on demand.
And on Thursday the new trailer dropped ahead of its June 12 release. The King of Staten Island is loosely based on Davidson's own life, after he lost his father, a FDNY firefighter, during the 9-11 t.e.r.r.o.r.i.s.t attack when he was just seven years old.
Davidson plays Scott, a slacker in his mid-twenties who lives at home with his single mother (Maria Tomei).
Straight off the top, the trailer shows Scott spending most of his days smoking weed and hanging out with his friends.
Still reeling from the death of his father, his life gets turned upside down when his mom starts to date a loud-mouthed firefighter (Bill Burr).
Scott takes an immediate disliking to the new man in his mother's life, but it also forces him to take a good look at his plight in life, along with his grief and demons.
"The movie is an imagining of what Pete's life might have been like if he never found comedy," Apatow told Entertainment Weekly.
"Comedy really was his savior, it gave him direction. And in the movie he's someone who is flailing about, not sure what he should do with his life."
Davidson's character has envisioned himself to be a tattoo artist but has never really gave a real, concerted effort to reach any goals.
