Disney–Pixar Studios has just announced the next completely new title, Luca, with inspiration from the Italian Riviera. Directed by Enrico Casarosa, the filmmaker who has received an Oscar nomination for best animated short film La Luna (2011), the Luca movie is scheduled to open in theaters on June 18, 2021.

The young boy Luca enjoys the endless joy of summer with his new acquaintance, but this beautiful friendship is somewhat precarious when Luca discovers a heavenly secret: the friend who is a creature live on the ocean floor.
Director Enrico Casarosa shared that this is a personal story of his own. Not only was Enrico born and raised in the Riviera, but the focus of this story was about praising friendship. He said that childhood friendships will often shape the people we will become later.

In 2019, Disney focuses on live-action films adapted from classic animated films and sequels of hit blockbusters like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Frozen II. With 2020 and 2021, Disney studios have changed their strategy and exploited completely new films with original scripts such as Soul (opened on December 4, 2020), Raya and the last dragon and Luca.
