ITV has postponed Britain's Got Talent live shows indefinitely due to the COVID-19 chaos, but they will still air the pre-recorded auditions.

According to a report, show bosses are hoping for a September air date, but 'have no idea when the live shows will take place' but will still air the audition rounds, which were filmed across the country in January and February.

The spread of COVID-19 has forced the television industry to take drastic measures as the deadly virus continues to wreak havoc around the world.

A source told The Sun: 'They have no idea when the live shows will take place as it depends on government guidelines and advice.

'At the moment they would like them to happen in September, but that will entirely depend on how quickly things are back to normal.'

The first trailer for the new season of Britain's Got Talent was released on Saturday, revealing that the show will return in April.

Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams are back for the 14th season, as they made a brief appearance in the trailer alongside co-hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Amid the coronavirus crisis, in a statement last week, ITV revealed that they intend to 'try and make the live shows work' for BGT, after postponing The Voice's live semi-final and final.

In a statement, the channel explained: 'The Voice UK knockouts, which are pre-recorded, will continue to be broadcast this weekend and the Britain's Got Talent audition shows are due to be broadcast in the next few weeks as planned.'

'We have, however, taken the difficult decision to postpone until later this year The Voice UK's live semi-final and final, which were due on air on the 28th March and 4th April, and are working to replace them in the schedule with some bespoke Voice specials.

'We are also working with our production colleagues to see how we can make the BGT live shows work in an ever changing situation and we will update on this in due course.'
