With the shock from the previous episode’s royal invitation barely leaving our senses, Netflix released the preview for the third episode of The King: Eternal Monarch to feed our growing anticipation of the succeeding scenes. Do you think detective Jung Tae Eul(Kim Go Eun) will accept King Lee Gon’s (Lee Min Ho) proposal that sounded more like a reward than a plea? Or are you laying your odds on the possibility that His Majesty will be escorted to a psychiatric facility? Hmmm. Why don’t we review the highlights of the 30-second teaser to confirm each of our speculations?

The preview opens with yet another blush-worthy line from Lee Gon, “I’ve missed you for the last 25 years,” while he and Tae-eul are in what appears to be a public park. Who would ever feign animosity after hearing those words? Yup, you guessed that right. Tae Eul replied with a very crisp combo, “Just shut up!” and “You’re so full of yourself.” So she’s not as quickly smitten by His Highness as you and I, huh?

The next scene focuses on Kang Shin Jae (Kim Kyung Nam), who becomes highly suspicious of Lee Gon that he looks into the latter’s confiscated belongings. Interestingly, he claims to have seen the emblem of the Kingdom of Corea before. But where and when exactly? Could it be on Lee Rims (Lee Jung Jin) possessions, who might have accidentally left them at a crime scene?

Meanwhile, in Corea, the palace is in distress as a result of Lee Gon’s overlong absence. Head Court Lady Noh Ok Nam (Kim Young Ok) orders someone to find out everything about the girl on the ID card. She has learned that Lee Gon went to chase a woman and has a feeling that she is the same as the one on the ID, young Lee Gon’s mysterious savior.

The following scene reveals a somewhat impatient Prime Minister Goo Seo Ryung (Jung Eun Chae) who might have already heard of the emperor’s disappearance. Royal Guards Captain Jo Young (Woo Do Hwan) is also growing anxious as his attempts to trace his friend’s tracks have led him to a dead end.

The final scenes of the preview center once more on Lee Gon and Tae Eul who are now inside a bamboo forest that looks similar to the one where Lee Gon found the gateway to the parallel world. Will he finally show her the door to his world? He then says that time has stopped as a possible consequence of using the portal. The next scene shows him feeling some pain. Could this reveal that his existence in an alternate world disrupts dimensional equilibrium and potentially trigger adverse effects on his state of being?

We’re now left with no other choice but to wait for the next episodes for answers. SBS and Netflix will release the 3rd and 4th episodes of The King: Eternal Monarch on April 24 and 25, respectively.
