Park Bo Gum is expected to join the Navy 's military band in August to fulfill his mandatory military service, officials said on June 24.

Last month, he applied for a naval military band and honor guard unit. After going through a performance test and interview, he was deemed qualified to be a member specializing in piano, according to the officials.

Park Bo Gum will begin his service on Aug. 31 at the Navy Education and Training Command in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, for basic military training before transferring to the Navy headquarters in the central city of Gyeryong, they added.

On June 25, his agency released the following statement:

Hello.

This is Blossom Entertainment.

This is an announcement regarding actor Park Bo Gum’s military enlistment.

Actor Park Bo Gum was accepted as a cultural promotion soldier of the navy, and he will be enlisting on August 31, 2020.

He will complete filming for the film “Wonderland” and drama “Record of Youth” (literal title) prior to his enlistment.

We ask for your support so actor Park Bo Gum can fulfill his military duty in good health.

Thank you.

After completing 6-weeks of training with the navy, he will serve out the remainder of his 20-month mandatory service until April of 2022.

Park graduated from Myongji University in Seoul majoring in musical performance and film. He debuted in the 2011 film "Blind" and rose to stardom after appearing in the cable channel tvN soap opera "Reply 1988."

Meanwhile, Park Bo Gum’s upcoming tvN drama “A Record of Youth” is set to premiere this year, and he is also appearing in his movie “Wonderland”.
