On May 10, SM Entertainment released an official statement announcing that after careful discussion between Lucas and the agency, it was decided that he will leave NCT and WayV to focus on solo activities.

Previously in August 2021, Lucas was embroiled in controversy over his past actions toward his ex-girlfriends. Shortly after, Lucas posted a handwritten letter of apology on his Instagram followed by a statement from SM Entertainment announcing that Lucas would be halting his activities to reflect on his actions.
