Earlier today, a photo of two people alleged to be BLACKPINK‘s Jennie and BTS‘s V was released online. Considering the star status of both celebrities, netizens have been highly invested in the news.
According to Korean media outlets, the K-Pop idols were sighted on a trip to Jeju Island, Korea. They were riding a car with untinted windows when the picture was taken.
As of writing, only Jennie’s agency, YG Entertainment, has released a statement. They told news site Chosun, “We have nothing to say.”
Understandably, the rumor has taken social media by storm, with a number of fans speculating that the idols are being used to distract the public from LE SSERAFIM Garam‘s bullying scandal.
But that’s not all netizens are saying. One side is arguing that the picture is edited, while the other side believes it is not.
Either way, the blurry picture and subject matter has led keen netizens to dig up another one of V’s past rumors. They unearthed a couple photo that once made the rounds online. In the picture, a man and woman can be seen standing together on a beach as they lovingly look into each other’s eyes and lean in for a kiss.
At the time, netizens argued that the two were Red Velvet‘s Irene and V.
Eventually, however, it was widely accepted to be a picture of non-celebrities. It was also alleged to have originated from a Chinese website.
The reality of the rumor made many question whether Jennie and V’s dating scandal is also fake.
When compared, “Jennie-V” is noticeably closer to the camera and less blurry than “Irene-V,” which is why fans mentioned finding it easier to make assumptions with the former. Comments have been divided between seeing the resemblance to the idols and thinking the idea is farfetched.
Then and now, neither agency has commented on the beach photo.
