In South Korea, every male is required to serve in the mandatory military service for about 1.5 years, unless you have an exemption that the nation has cleared—and yes, that includes our favorite male stars, from K-Pop idols to actors!

Every male Korean citizen must enlist in the army by the time they reach 28 years old (Korean age), so even if they are currently at the height of their career, they have to enlist anyway.

Let’s take a look at the 5+ male stars who, unfortunately, but absolutely, have to enlist by the end of 2022 due to their age limit.

1. EXO’s Kai

Kai is one of the hottest male idols today. He has made a name for himself outside of EXO as well as a solo artist. He has recently been performing at festivals.

Even recently, he won the “Best New Male Entertainer” award for his work on New World at the inaugural Blue Dragon Series Awards.

2. EXO’s Sehun

Fellow EXO member Sehun is also one of the hottest Korean entertainers as he additionally is a variety show star and actor.

Earlier this year, Sehun underwent surgery. Additionally, fans have been concerned since he was recently excluded from SM Entertainment‘s family concert series SMTOWN LIVE in August.

3. WINNER’s Seungyoon (also known as Kang Seung Yoon or simply as Yoon)

Seungyoon is a South Korean singer-songwriter, actor, and leader of the boy band WINNER.

WINNER made their comeback in July with their fourth mini album, HOLIDAY, and the title track, “I LOVE U.”

4. Ha Sung Woon

Ha Sung Woon is a current soloist and former member of Wanna One and Hotshot.

5. Nam Joo Hyuk

Nam Joo Hyuk’s popularity as one of the most beloved K-Drama actors only grew with his role as Baek Yi Jin in tvN K-Drama Twenty Five Twenty One.

Recently, after bullying allegations were made against him, 20 former classmates and teachers came to his defense. So, he has been confirmed to continue schedules, including the new K-Drama, Vigilante.

6. 5urprise’s Kang Tae Oh

The 28-year-old actor is a member of the first ever K-Pop actor group 5urprise. He first made his acting debut in a web drama in 2013. Since then, the actor has acted in small roles in dramas such as Miss Korea (2013) and Netflix’s My First First Love (2019). The actor also played the third male lead in Park Bo Young‘s Doom At Your Service (2021) and Run On (2020).

Yet, his popularity is increasing with the male lead role in this season’s fan-favorite K-Drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

7. Song Kang

Song Kang has become famous as the “Son of Netflix” as he has starred in many of the streaming service’s popular K-Dramas, such as Love Alarm, Nevertheless, Sweet Home, Navillera, and Forecasting Love and Weather.

Recently, he attended the Prada SS23 event at this year’s Milan Fashion Week. He has also been confirmed for Season 2 of Sweet Home.

So, unfortunately, these Korean male stars will have to leave for over 1.5 years at the height of their careers. Although at this time, there have been little to no statements or updates made from the artists and their companies regarding enlistment plans.
