So emotional!

There’s something about vocalists with raw, emotional voices that just really pulls at your heartstrings and makes you feel what the singer is trying to communicate to listeners. Not every vocalist has this kind of voice, so those that do really have something special about them.

Recently on Reddit, fans discussed some K-Pop vocalists who they think have voices that “sound like they’ve been through 10 divorces” — in other words, singers that perfectly emulate heartbreak, anguish, or other strong emotions in their performances. Here are 15 of the idols mentioned on the post!

1. Yesung (Super Junior)

Yesung is part of Super Junior’s trio of power vocalists (and arguably still some of the best vocalists in K-Pop) that includes Kyuhyun and Ryeowook, aptly giving them the subunit name Super Junior-KRY. While all of them are phenomenal singers, Yesung in particular has this gritty, raspy, sorrowful edge to his voice that is impossible to mistake as anyone else.

2. Taeyeon (Girls’ Generation)

Taeyeon was actually the only female vocalist that was brought up several times by fans, and the only female idol on this list! There’s a reason she’s known as one of K-Pop’s strongest female vocalists to this day, and you can’t help but get emotional when you hear her sing some of her sadder or more heartfelt songs like “Fine” and “I Love You”.

3. San (ATEEZ)

Though San hasn’t released any solo music (yet!), as a lead vocalist of ATEEZ, there’s no denying that he has a beautiful voice. Not only is he a talented singer, however, but he’s a master at putting whatever emotion he’s trying to portray in his voice as well as his performance — and together, you can’t help but get swept up in him when he’s on stage. He even once got so into character during a performance of “Inception” that fans thought he was actually crying!

4. Woozi (SEVENTEEN)

Woozi isn’t the producer and leader of the vocal unit of SEVENTEEN for nothing. This guy knows how to make an incredible song, and not only that, he knows which parts to give himself and other members that best suit them. He often gets some of the most emotional and raw parts of songs, because his voice fits them so perfectly!

5. Bang Chan (Stray Kids)

Bang Chan is not only a fantastic leader for Stray Kids, but he’s extremely multi-talented as well, and that includes putting on a passionate performance when the situation calls for it! In solo songs such as “I Hate To Admit”, he really gets to showcase just how powerful he is as a vocalist.

6. Doyoung (NCT)

NCT has several extremely talented vocalists among its members — Taeil, Haechan, and Jaehyun to name just a few — by Doyoung was brought up by several fans for having the type of voice that best suited the “been divorced 10 times” kind of rawness. He sings beautifully, and it’s easy to get caught up in the story he tells when he’s singing.

7. Jongho (ATEEZ)

Jongho is the main vocalist of ATEEZ for a reason — well, multiple reasons, really! Not only is he just an extremely talented singer with ridiculously stable vocals, he’s also already an expert on pouring emotion into his singing. It’s no wonder he gets so many of the lines in ATEEZ’s songs!

8. Taehyun (TXT)

TXT is a group of five equally talented individuals, but Taehyun in particular stood out to fans for his ability to make listeners feel emotional during his performances. His lines in “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)” hit especially hard!

9. Yonghoon (ONEWE)

Yonghoon is another main vocalist of his group for good reason! He gets so into the emotions of the songs that he’s singing, his fellow members have even had to stress to him about the song “Veronica” being happy rather than sad, and he’s cried on stage multiple times. We love an artist that gets so invested in his work!

10. Jimin (BTS)

Honestly, the entirety of BTS’s vocal line could be on this list (and another one of them does appear later on!), but in the effort of keeping a fair list, we didn’t include all of them! Jimin is known by the BTS fandom to be not only incredible at expressing his feelings through his voice, but he, too, has started crying multiple times during performances when he gets emotional.

11. Chen (EXO)

We hope there aren’t any divorces in Chen’s future, but you can’t ignore the fact that the guy belts ballads like he’s had his heart broken multiple times! There are endless examples of this, both in EXO’s songs as well as his solo music, so if you feel like listening to something emotional, just look him up.

12. Taeyang (BIGBANG)

Like Yesung, Taeyang is a K-Pop idol from the second generation that has long been known for his unique voice and ability to express himself beautifully through his voice. If you haven’t cried watching him performing “Eyes, Nose, Lips” at some point… You must be lying, or haven’t watched one!

13. Donghun (A.C.E)

Fans of A.C.E have had the pleasure of hearing Donghun’s raspy, soulful voice sing both the group’s own songs as well as many covers, which have arguably been better than the originals! He, and his whole group, are thought to be underrated by a lot of their fans, and once you give his voice a listen, you might be inclined to agree!

14. Junsu (JYJ)

A list like this wouldn’t be complete without Junsu and his impossibly beautiful voice. Whether he’s belting out a powerful song like “Tarantallegra” or something softer and more emotional like “11am”, it’s far too easy to get enchanted by his singing and feel like you’re part of whatever story he’s telling.

15. Jin (BTS)

We promised another BTS member, didn’t we? It’s been so wonderful to see Jin’s confidence and vocal abilities flourish since the group debuted, and now he is basically an expert at getting ARMYs worked up and emotional over his voice if he wants to!
